November 2007 page 5 Emergency Services Patients require transportation both within a facility (intrafacility), from accident scenes, and between facilities (interfacility). Examples of intrafacility transfers include, for example, those from the emergency department to the care unit or floor, from the care unit or floor to radiology or therapy, or from another hospital location to the operating room. These transfers are considered an integral part of hospital care (eg, daily bed charge) of the patient and are included in the patient's facility charges.
