February 2016 pages 3-6 Radiation Treatment Delivery The American Medical Association (AMA) implemented new radiation oncology treatment delivery codes in the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) 2015 code set; however, these new codes were not accepted by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) into the Medicare Physician Payment Schedule (MFS) for calendar years 2015 and 2016. Instead of implementing the new CPT codes, CMS created the Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) G-codes to allow the reporting of former treatment delivery, which was represented by the group of deleted radiation treatment delivery CPT codes (see Table 1)...
