February 2008 page 8b Surgery: Integumentary System, 11600, 11646 (Q&A) Question: Is it appropriate to report surgical repair following Mohs surgery? Answer: The closure of wounds created by excisions of malignant lesions (11600-11646) is reported separately when the closures are intermediate, complex or involve grafts and flaps. Mohs micrographic surgery is a form of malignant lesion excision; however, simple repairs (12001- 12021) are allowed to be separately reported when closing after a Mohs excision. Repairs after Mohs frequently involve complex graft or flap closures. If surgical repair is necessary, then the appropriate repair code would be reported separately...
